Thousands of ChatGPT users worldwide faced frustration Thursday when OpenAI's popular artificial intelligence chatbot unexpectedly went offline, disrupting digital workflows and highlighting the technology's growing integration into daily life.

The outage, which began around 11:00 GMT, triggered widespread reports of service interruption. Downdetector, a platform tracking website performance, logged more than 10,000 user complaints, primarily from users in the United Kingdom.

Users attempting to access the platform were greeted with a technical error message reading "the web server reported a bad gateway error", leaving many professionals and AI enthusiasts momentarily disconnected from their digital assistant.

OpenAI swiftly responded to the technical challenge, implementing a fix at 15:09 GMT. The company's status page acknowledged they were "monitoring the results" of the service restoration.

The incident sparked immediate social media reaction, with users sharing humorous and frustrated responses. One X platform user quipped, "ChatGPT is down again? During the work day? So you're telling me I have to… THINK?!", capturing the widespread reliance on AI technology.

This service disruption comes amid remarkable growth for ChatGPT, which has seen explosive popularity since its November 2022 launch. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed the platform now enjoys over 300 million weekly users globally.

While the free version remains widely accessible, OpenAI offers premium tiers ranging up to $200 monthly, reflecting the platform's diverse user ecosystem.

The outage represents a momentary setback for a technology that has rapidly transformed digital interaction and professional productivity since its introduction.
