A new AI startup, Nexos.ai, is set to help businesses implement AI projects into production. Founded by Tomas Okmanas and Eimantas Sabaliauskas, the founders of Nord Security, Nexos.ai focuses on improving the visibility, security, and flexibility of large language models (LLMs). Their previous company, Nord Security, is well-known for the VPN service NordVPN, which reached a $1.6 billion valuation after receiving a $100 million investment in 2022.

Nexos.ai launched today with $8 million in funding from several investors, including Index Ventures, Creandum, and Dig Ventures, with participation from high-profile figures such as the CEOs of Datadog, Klarna, Supercell, and Wix.

Okmanas and Sabaliauskas noticed a gap between testing AI models in labs and deploying them in real-world production, especially for businesses. According to Okmanas, while AI might work well in a lab, challenges like high availability, security, and managing costs arise when trying to put AI into production at scale.

The idea for Nexos.ai came from Okmanas' experience at Hostinger, a web hosting company in Tesonet's portfolio, where he encountered unexpected costs when integrating AI into their website builder. In one instance, the AI bill reached $150,000 due to a lack of visibility and control. Okmanas realized something had to be done to help companies manage the increasing complexity of AI models.

Nexos.ai offers an API that connects businesses to over 200 AI models, including major ones like OpenAI and smaller LLMs. The platform allows companies to switch between providers automatically if one goes down or if costs rise unexpectedly. Nexos.ai also features intelligent caching, which helps reduce costs by using a company's own database for frequently repeated queries instead of calling on LLMs.

In terms of security and privacy, Nexos.ai ensures that sensitive data, such as personal information, does not get sent to third-party LLM providers. The platform offers secure ways to manage data access, especially when employees leave a company.

Nexos.ai's platform is set to launch in March, although it is already working with beta customers. Okmanas has assembled a team of trusted colleagues to work on the project, with plans to expand further. The company’s mission is to make it easier for businesses to integrate, manage, and optimize AI models in their operations.
